Guardian Hospital Meru is looking to recruit an ambitious and career driven person for a vacancy in the
following position:
MEDICAL OFFICER – CRITICAL CARE
The medical officer is to examine, diagnose, and treat, by surgical and nonsurgical means, diseases
and injuries in adult Intensive Care Unit-High Dependency Unit.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Work in the ICU or HDU ward on shift assigned according to duty roster or during internal and
external emergencies e.g. Mass Casualty Incidents. - Demonstrate a collaborative approach to the care of critically ill patients that respects and utilizes
the expertise of all caregivers, and demonstrate professional attitudes and behavior at all times. - Be immediately available to attend ICU patients, assist with consults or new admissions to the
ICU-HDU during assigned shift. - Be primarily responsible for the assessment and daily management of a variable number of ICUHDU inpatients.
- Perform admission assessments on new patients admitted to the ICU, with/without the assistance
of the specialist doctors or senior resident. - Assess Critical Care Consults in other wards and the A&E department.
- Facilitate the discharge of suitable patients from the ICU by completing required documentation
and prescriptions for patients discharged home from the ICU/HDU. - Completing required documentation, including death certificates and final discharge summaries,
for any patient who dies in the ICU/HDU. - During the shift, respond immediately to Code Blue calls as the resident Code Team Leader for the
hospital cardiac arrest team and actively lead the resuscitation of patients who suffer in hospital
cardiac arrest or are brought to A&E with OHCA. - Attend all regularly scheduled teaching sessions for in house staff, including morning seminars
and simulation sessions (including on post night shift days)
Minimum Requirements:
· MBChB from a recognized institution.
· Completion of Internship recognised by MPDB Kenya.
· Procedural and patient care skills (in house training on same).
· Team player, hardworking, good PR skills.
